Lower Merion & Narberth Trash and Recycling Information

Narberth Borough and Lower Merion have different schedules and systems for trash and recycling collection, and they both participate in special recycling and drop-off events throughout the year. We have compiled info, schedules, and links for both municipalities below.

Narberth Trash and Recycling
General Narberth trash and recycling info is here. Call Republic Services at 610-265-6337 if you have a question or a missed pickup.

• Leaf and yard waste is collected Wednesdays
• Single-stream recycling (see guide) is collected Thursdays
• Trash is collected Fridays
• Bulk items are collected on Fridays.  Every resident may put out one bulk item a week, free of charge. Tires, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, electronics and other hazardous waste cannot be collected. The Borough also has the Spring Cleanup Week collection every June.

Lower Merion Trash and Recycling
Lower Merion’s Public Works Department has its own Refuse and Recycling Division.

"Free Dump" Clean-Up Weekends for Lower Merion Residents
Scheduled throughout the year. Dispose of your unwanted refuse and recyclables — household appliances, textiles, plastic, glass, newsprint, and plain old trash — without charge! Proof of LM residency is required (such as a driver's license). Recyclable material must be separated from other household trash. Details here​

Spring Cleanup Week in Narberth
Also known as "Junk Week", this is the week the Borough schedules extra home trash pickups, so Borough residents can put out any large items, extra trash, and clutter. In 2022, Spring Cleanup Weeks is June 6-10. Here are the 2022 details about the Spring Cleanup Week collection schedule and the list of restrictions. Hazardous Waste
Both LM and Narberth residents can drop off household hazardous waste  (not commercial or construction waste) at drop-off events scheduled throughout the year.

Paint
Oil-based paint is considered hazardous waste, and should be dropped off at hazardous waste events described above. 
Latex paint should be dried out and discarded with the regular trash. See how to dry out latex paint cans here.

Electronics
​In addition to periodic local e-cycle events, both LM and Narberth residents can arrange for at-home pickup with the Retrievr app. Retrievr does household pickups of clothes and small electronics. Retriever will take just about any clean and dry textile or fabric in your home, and most electronic devices or accessories. Please note that they do not take household appliances, such as dishwashers, refrigerators, toasters, vacuums, hair dryers and the like.

Clothing
In addition to the Retrievr App home pickup of clothing (previous paragraph), you can also donate clothing to these Goodwill drop-off locations or to the GreenDrop Narberth location.

Plastic Bags
Some grocery stores have plastic bag recycling bins, including Giant in Wynnewood.  This website has a list of plastic bag recycling locations. Plastic bags do not get recycled curbside, and other recyclables should NOT be bagged.

Children's Books

Christmas Tree Pickup
​Narberth residents can put their Christmas trees on the curb on Tuesdays nights in January.  They will be collected with the regular Wednesday brush pickups in January. All ornaments, stands and other decorations must be removed. 
Lower Merion will begin the collection of trees (which must be placed curbside) during the first two weeks in January on the regular refuse collection day. Residents may also dispose of Christmas trees at the Public Works Complex located at 1300 N Woodbine Avenue in Penn Valley., Monday through Friday 8am-3pm and Saturday 9am-2:30pm. All ornaments, stands and other decorations must be removed.
