Lower Merion and Narberth - Stuff you should know

We get all sorts of different questions about Lower Merion and Narberth, so we put together a few quick items of interest every month or so. If you have a friend who needs this info emailed to them, have them use this link

Christmas Tree Collection
Lower Merion Township will begin the collection of trees (which must be placed curbside) during the first two weeks in January, on your regular refuse collection day. Residents may also dispose of Christmas trees at the Public Works Complex located at 1300 N Woodbine Avenue in Penn Valley, Monday through Friday 8am-3pm and Saturday 9am-2:30pm. All ornaments, stands and other decorations must be removed.

​Narberth residents can put their Christmas trees on the curb on Tuesdays nights in January.  They will be collected with the regular Wednesday brush pickups in January. All ornaments, stands and other decorations must be removed. 

Remember to bring reusable bags!
Narberth and Lower Merion both have ordinances restricting the use of plastic bags by stores. LM’s new ordinance goes into effect on January 21. 

LM trash holiday schedule
In Lower Merion, a refuse and recycling holiday collection schedule will be in effect for January 1st through 5th, due to the New Year's Day holiday and also January 15th through 19th, due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. There will be no refuse or recycling collection on Monday, January 1 or Monday, January 15. More info here: 

Narberth Trash/Recycle Changes
Narberth's new trash and recycling company, J.P. Mascaro, has already started pickups on the old schedule. Starting on February 6, the new schedule moves trash and bulk pickup from Fridays to Tuesdays. Brush is still Wednesdays, and recycling is still Thursdays. More details here. 

Narberth now recycles more items
Borough residents can add more (unbagged) items to their recycling bins for Thursday collections. More details here.

That's a lot of trash info!
Sometimes it's tough for residents to keep up with all the trash and recycling rules and schedules, which is why we include so much in these updates. We also keep a trash & recycling info web page updated with everything LM and Narberth residents need to know. 

The Borough has a new Manager
Matt West was the Borough's director of technology and Assistant Manager a few years back and recently served as Interim Manager. Now he has been appointed as Narberth's Borough Manager. Say hello next time you're in Borough Hall!

Quizzo Championship - February 3
Teams of up to eight are encouraged to register to compete in this annual Quizzo battle to raise money for the Narberth Community Library. Cindy and Ed plan to take the trophy home with us, but those who wish to compete for second place can register and get more info here.

Sontuosa BYOB, Bryn Mawr
​This Bryn Mawr restaurant lets you specifically order for any number of diners and pay per person. Turkey is the main course, but you choose the starters, sides and dessert. Stop in, or call 484-222-6216 and leave a message to order, no later than November 19. 

Manny’s Place - Bala Cynwyd
Bala’s Manny’s Place is offering tons of options in their Thanksgiving catering menu, with both traditional Thanksgiving dishes and a number of Jewish deli options. Want to order a turkey and a brisket, with sides of mashed potatoes and matzo ball soup? Manny’s is your place! Use this order form before November 18th.

Di Bruno Bros. - Ardmore
It's great having an outpost of this South Philly favorite right in Suburban Square. Order from their holiday menu by November 15, using this online order form.

McCaffrey's Food Markets - Gladwyne
This highly anticipated market finally opened in Gladwyne at the site of the old Acme, that was previously a Superfresh, and an A&P before that. Their Thanksgiving menu has a variety of complete dinners and a la carte options. Order here by November 19. 

Mom's Organic Market - Bryn Mawr
The next best thing to Mom's house is Mom's in Bryn Mawr!  If you're looking for an organic or free range turkey, or you're looking to serve guests with mains, sides and desserts that are vegetarian and/or vegan - this place has everything you'll need. See their Thanksgiving menu here. 

McShea's Catering - Ardmore
Looks like our good friend John McShea is offering an 18-20 lb  boned, easy-carve turkey, plus sides, for $195. Or by emailing [email protected] by November 19. 

Savona - Gulph Mills
Take Montgomery Ave out of Lower Merion, and you'll pass this classic restaurant on your way to the KOP mall. They have a ready-to-reheat Thanksgiving menu ready for your online order. 

Tank & Libby's - Drexel Hill
Just down Rt 1 in Drexel Hill is Tank & Libby’s.  Thanksgiving menu includes Herb Roasted Turkey Breast Brined and Hand Carved, plus their twist on most of the traditional sides. Orders must be placed by Friday 11/17 by emailing [email protected] or calling 484-455-7527

Personal Gourmet - Narberth
Looking for quality meats that you cook yourself? This online business is opening a brick & mortar location in the old Village Treats location in downtown Narberth. Personal Gourmet offers fresh and frozen quality meats, fish, chicken, pork, veal, and lamb. They are accepting pre-orders for Thanksgiving turkeys, hors d’oeuvres and fresh, cut meats.  (Think high-end Omaha steaks, with local delivery or pick up.)  Details here.

Little Blue Owl - Narberth
Maybe you want to cook your own turkey, and just need a couple of Thanksgiving pies. The new owners of Le Petit Mitron renamed it Little Blue Owl Baking Company - and the quality is still amazing! Order dessert  in person or call  484-562-0500.

Hazardous Waste Dropoff
LM and Narberth residents can take hazardous waste to the LM transfer station on October 22. An appointment is required. Register here. 

E-cycle event
Drop off "anything with a plug" on October 28. There is a fee for TVs, air conditioners and o=some other items. 

Drug Disposal
  Drop off prescription and over-the-counter medication. Details and dropoff locations here.
